Music therapy // The melody of healing

Autistic people respond emotionally, psychotics show full functioning, and dementia patients recall memories.

Music therapy has a beneficial effect on all of us! We see that music brings the mental patient back to the here and now. After some sessions the patient begins to remember and recognize faces and situations, while even in advanced dementia there are changes. Because music is stored in the brain's long memory, playing a piece that the patient liked can bring back memories from that particular period.

Also, in patients who have a neurological issue with walking, by putting on the metronome, they can and do walk better without freezing. In recent years, we have many researches that show that music therapy has very positive results in terms of babies' neurological development, pain management, relaxation, stress reduction and their sleep.

Also, patients answering a psychometric questionnaire, emphasized that music greatly reduced anxiety and stress when they were in the intensive care unit. The effect of listening to music before and during a fatigue test was also studied and it was found that when someone exercises with music, he does more time than when he exercises without it. In other words, music acts as a natural doping agent and can prolong our endurance during exercise!
